Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
